Description: This coin, also known as a Keneta or copper cent, was the first of only five coins issued for general circulation in the Kingdom of Hawaii. The obverse side depicts a portrait of Kamehameha III and the words "Kamehameha III Ka Moi" (Kamehameha III, the King), while the reverse side features a laurel wreath with "Aupuni Hawaii" (Kingdom of Hawaii) and "Hapa Haneri" (one penny).

Historical Context: Prior to 1847, Hawaii relied on foreign coinage, which often led to currency shortages. King Kamehameha III commissioned 100,000 of these copper one-cent coins, which were minted privately in the United States.
Reception: Despite their introduction to establish a monetary system, the coins were not well-received due to the poor quality of Kamehameha's likeness and a misspelling of "Hapa Hanele". Nevertheless, they remained legal tender until 1884 and circulated until they were replaced by U.S. curr
