One Rupee banknote issued by the Japanese Government for use in Burma during World War II, commonly known as Japanese Invasion Money (JIM). Issuance Period: These notes were issued by the Japanese Military Authority between 1942 and 1945 during their occupation of Burma (present-day Myanmar).
Purpose: It was intended to replace the local currency and establish Japanese economic control in the occupied territory.
Design Features:
The banknote displays "THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT ONE RUPEE" prominently.
The banknote features the Ananda Temple in Pagan (Bagan) on the right side and a Breadfruit tree on the left side of the obverse (front).
Like other Japanese colonial currencies of that era, these notes included a letter code, with the initial "B" signifying issuance for Burma.
Historical Context: The Japanese invasion and occupation of Burma occurred in January 1942 during World War II, and they held control until the Allied campaign of 1944 and eventual surrender in August 1945.
