This is not Pre-1940 but it is vintage. The viewer is in good condition. The stories show signs of wear due to age, such as dog-eared corners, wrinkling/bends, etc.
Three stories are missing some cards:
The Little Pig that Flew Just Once is missing card 10
Black Jack and Ramon is missing card 9
The Faithful Foreman is missing card 7

This little viewer was made from marbled plastic by the company known as "Craftsmen's Guild" from Hollywood, California, USA, in about 1958. It is called a 'Tri-Scope' and was designed to be used with pictures story cards.
There story strips were aimed at young children. Each one consists of 10 image pairs. Each slide measures 33mm x 90mm and is printed on heavy gauge paper.
