This is a large Medieval style dress clip dating to the 1930's - 1940's. It is shield shaped with a raised ornate design of plumes and shells. The finish is bronze in color. The clip is tight and secure with a chased scroll design. There is some discolored finish wear at the top of the clip. There is also overall patina consistent with age. Size of this large clip is 1 1/2 inches in width by 2 7/8 inches in length.
Dress clips were a purely ornamental type of pin that first gained prominence in the 1920's. They were often worn in pairs on the neckline or on straps of dresses. Popularity waned in the 1950's. They can now be used to decorate pockets, at the waistline, on hats or as hair pieces.
