Jan Valtin SIGNED First Edition Book Bend in the River Communist Spy German Nazi

Hand signed and inscribed first edition "Bend in the River" by Jan Valtin who was a German immigrant into the US during WW2 with associations with communism and Nazi Germany.

Valtin was the first of several former Communists who were able to turn their disillusionment with 'communism into cash in the American book market. When his first and most widely known book, "Out of the Night," was published in 1941 it was charged that no one man could have had the variety of experiences claimed by the author and that the book itself owed much to the collaboration of an experi- enced writer. The Communists charged that it was a complete fraud. Few events in the book could be verified, but as additional informa- tion became available about Com- munist and Nazi methods, many critics came to believe that the book was entirely plausible.
