Aquatint. ca.1920-30's, ed. unknown, signed in pencil, on cream wove paper. This fine subject, which likely shows Horter's own home or the view from it.
Size of visible image is 11.75'' x 9.2''. Perimeter of frame measures 16.75'' x 15''. Lithograph is excellently conserved in the frame. Paper has darkened slightly. Black ink is still rich and dark with minimal fading. Very minimal wear to frame. Please review all images.
One of Americans most influential artists in the Modernist movement, illustrator and etcher, Earl Horter worked in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators in 1910, exhibited at Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco in 1915, the Art Institute of Chicago in 1932, and in 1932 and 1938 won prizes at exhibitions of prints at the Philadelphia Print Club. He specialized in American landscape prints, both urban and historical.
