Constructed from luxurious ribbed faille with a sculptural split-mandarin collar, 3 button front, and bracelet length dolman sleeves. Made in the USA under ILGWU union label, circa 1956-1959. High quality American ready to wear sold through fine department stores or specialty boutiques (eg, Saks Fifth Ave).

This coat represents the shift from Diors structured New Look (19471954) to Balenciagas more fluid, modern silhouette (19551959) less emphasis on cinched waists and more on architectural volume and grace. Very reminiscent of Ben Zuckerman styles.

It was the kind of elegant transitional coat worn over cocktail dresses or sheath dresses, often paired with gloves and a small hat.
Fabric: Appears to be silk faille or rayon faille a structured, ribbed fabric with a subtle sheen and crisp drape.
Collar: Split Mandarin collar with stitched band detail (architectural and clean).
Pockets: Diagonal welt pockets with pointed flaps, tailored but understated.
