A representative Finnish designer and sculptor.
An exhibition was held at the Tokyo Station Gallery this year and is currently being held at the Itami Museum.
Like his wife, the ceramic artist Rut Bryk, Wirkkala is said to have deeply loved the silence of Lapland. He used to take photographs of his glass works in natural light, and the photos have a beauty of light that is different from today's digital images.
