Rare Oxblood Majolica Plate ~ Rabbits & Rhyme Sarreguemines (France ) Germany 1912
This plate is a delightful surprise. The color is brilliant, and the entire plate is a joy to behold. The plate measures 8 inches in diameter, decorated in flambé or oxblood majolica tin glaze. The decoration is press moulded. It features 3 rabbits running in a circle encircled by thistle. On the outer rim of the plate is a rhyming riddle:
~ Rabbits three and ears as few, Yet each rabbit has its two.~
The plate is dated 1912 and signed with an imprinted 'Sarreguemines and the plate number
