1. A Portal to the Past:
The story begins with a discussion between archaeologists about the Great Sphinx and the lack of rain in ancient Egypt, while Thor and his allies storm a castle in Asgard, disrupting the forbidden portal to Midgard.
2. Arrival in Egypt:
Volstagg accidentally falls through the portal, and Thor, Fandral, and Hogun follow to rescue him, finding themselves in ancient Egypt.
3. Misunderstanding and Conflict:
The Asgardians encounter the Pharaoh Neb-Maat and his Griffin, which they initially believe is a taskmaster. They interfere with Neb-Maat's plans, which involve sacrificing them to the creature.
4. The Legacy:
Thor eventually defeats the Griffin with a lightning storm and allows the much-needed rain to fall, which is suggested to have eroded the Sphinx and possibly created the patterns discussed by the archaeologists in the opening scene.
