Egerton A. Bliss and James Edgar Carpenter founded The E.A. Bliss Co. in Attleboro, Massachusetts, in 1878. In 1890, the business was moved to Meriden, Connecticut, and had offices in New York, New York. In addition to jewelry, the company offered handbags and compacts.
In 1920, James Napier, who was already an employee of The E.A. Bliss Co., became president. The company's name changed to The Napier-Bliss Co. Napier acquired a controlling interest in the company in 1922. The name changed to The Napier Co.
