William, also known as Bill, Zacha (1920-1988) was an artist and entrepreneur who founded the Mendocino Art Center in the historic art colony of Mendocino located on the rugged picturesque coast of Northern California. His efforts helped save the dying former lumber town and pioneered Mendocino's artistic renaissance. During a visit to Japan in 1964, Zacha met the famous Japanese artist Toshi Yoshida. Mr. Yoshida taught at the Mendocino Art Center in 1971. The friendship between the two men became the basis for a sister city relationship between Mendocino and the Japanese town of Miasa where Toshi Yosh
