Palekh miniature is a folk art craft that developed in the village of Palekh. The lacquer miniature is made with tempera on papier-mâché. Usually boxes, caskets, little capsules, brooches, paintings, ashtrays, tie pins, pincushions, etc. are painted. Typical subjects of Palekh miniatures are borrowed from everyday life, literary works of the classics, fairy tales, epics and songs.
