Vintage Figural Cork Bottle Stopper Perseus with the Head of Gorgon Medusa
This unusual vintage bottle stopper has the mythological figure of Perseus standing over Medusa with her head in one hand and sabre in the other. Medusa was the woman-faced Gorgon whose hair had turned to snakes and anyone that looked at her was turned to stone.
The stopper is 3.25 inches high including the cork and about 1 inch across. This macabre stopper is rather crudely cast in keeping with the subject and in excellent vintage condition. The cork and the top weighs 8 oz.
There are no silver markings but the metal appears to be a silver alloy. It was quite dark and tarnished prior to cleaning with a silver cleaner.
