Some stories, like Jake's Rangers vs. Spring Fever are based on a real trip Ed took with his friends. He writes, "I must explain that Jake's Rangers are a group of 7 normally sane business and professional men. Our roster includes Damariscotta's postmaster, its veterinary surgeon, a leading physician, grocer, artist and insurance man. A nonmilitary and nonbelligerent organization, we are called "rangers" only because we range far and wide throughout our home state in search of trout and the blue horizon." It was because of this story that I've taken several backpacking trips into Russell Pond, (in Baxter Park), and I've never seen trout fishing any better!
