It was not unusual for women to wear suits during this period but the suits were cut differently but most importantly the buttons would have been
sewn on the left and not the right. This tradition began in the Victorian era due to the fact that woman were often dressed by someone so having the
buttons on the left made dressing a woman easier. Because men generally dressed themselves, having the buttons sewn on the right made sense.
Buttons today are still placed in that orientation.
